An Azerbaijani political prisoner called the lack of medical care "torture."

The situation of Azerbaijani opposition figure and political prisoner Tofig Yagublu is causing serious concern among his family due to the rapid deterioration of his health. He is in critical condition and is deprived of adequate medical care.

His daughter, Nigar Hazi, reports that Yagublu is suffering severe pain and swelling in his knee, making even sitting or lying down painful. Despite repeated requests to prison doctors, they only gave him an injection ten days later.

Tofig Yagublu also noted that he was denied the use of a medical orthopedic corrector provided by his family and was given only one crutch.

It is noted that during transport to the medical facility, the prisoner was not provided with crutches or a wheelchair. The opposition figure himself describes his current situation as true "torture."

As a reminder, in March, Tofig Yagublu ended a 26-day hunger strike, which he ended at the insistence of his family and associates, who informed him of the widespread public outcry and international attention surrounding his case. Specifically, he was informed of the protective measures being taken in the United States and the interest of the U.S. Congress in his case.

Tofig Yagublu, a member of the Coordination Center of the National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan (NCDF) and a member of the Musavat Party, was sentenced in 2025 to nine years in prison on charges of fraud and document falsification. Yagublu categorically denies his guilt, insisting that his prosecution is politically motivated.
