Russian citizen and billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, owner of the Tashir Group, will remain in custody for another 30 days. A Yerevan court has extended his pretrial detention.

Prisoners serving their sentences in IK-2 in the Chechen village of Chernokozovo have filed a complaint with the head of the republic. According to them, the head of the colony, Aslan Murtazov, and his deputy, Akhmed Mutuyev, extort money – from 100 to 350 thousand rubles – for writing a “good reference.” At the same time, they do not fulfill their promises and again demand bribes from relatives of prisoners, activists of the opposition Chechen movement NIYSO said.
In addition, the colony management demands from 25 to 50 thousand rubles for incentives that prisoners are entitled to. The result is the same as in the case with the reference. Prisoners are also forced to collect money for repairs to the premises of the institution. They complain about thefts of personal belongings and constant searches in their cells.
Following a complaint signed by 30 people, the prisoners' conditions of detention were tightened: they were deprived of food during the month of Ramadan, and their access to packages and the store was blocked. Before that, they were fed rotten food, forcing them to spend money in the prison store, which brings in millions to the administration every month.
