Chechen lawyer released from arrest

The Moscow City Court issued a decision on the release of a lawyer, a native of Chechnya, Timur Idalov under a ban on certain actions. He will not be able to use the phone and the Internet. Since April, he has been under arrest for threatening to use violence against a law enforcement officer in the capital. Later he was arrested for two months.

According to investigators, at a meeting of the Nikulinsky District Court in October 2022, Idalov made threats against the state prosecutor. Later, he stated that the charges against him were fabricated by the FSB with the help of the investigating authorities. Challenging the measure of restraint, the defense referred to the unsubstantiated suspicions. She called the initiation of a criminal case revenge on a lawyer acting as a defense counsel in a number of high-profile criminal cases.

Timur Idalov is known for representing the interests of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, who was convicted of organizing the murders. He also collaborated with the For Human Rights project and specialized in cases involving those accused of terrorism or high-profile murders. In particular, he defended one of the suspects in the murder of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Center for Ingushetia, Ibragim Eldzharkiev.
