In Crimea, police officers issued human rights activist Abdureshit Dzhepparov a warning against violating the law. Law enforcement officials explained the document's origins in connection with the upcoming holiday on May 9th, but such actions typically occur shortly before the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People (May 18th).
Chechnya is among the leaders in the number of missing persons
Chechnya took second place after Moscow among the regions of the Russian Federation in terms of the number of missing people in 2023. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, their number reached 1608 and 2014, respectively. At the same time, Chechnya is nine times smaller than the capital in terms of population.
For comparison: in Dagestan, 301 people were officially listed as missing last year, in Kabardino-Balkaria – 182, in Ingushetia – 127. From 2018 to 2021, about 5 thousand people disappeared in Chechnya, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
In Russia as a whole, 36 thousand people were reported missing last year.
