The number of people convicted in the Makhachkala airport riots case has reached 62
Four more residents of Dagestan were sentenced to terms ranging from 8 years to 9 years and 4 months in prison as part of the "airport case." The total number of people convicted has reached 62.

Maksudi Shcheikhgasanov, Ismail Ibakov, Shamil Mirzabekov, and Magomed Khalilbegov were found guilty of participating in mass riots (Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as of failing to comply with transport security requirements (Article 3 of 263.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the Investigative Committee, 142 people were involved in the crimes.

Human rights activists pointed out the bias of the court cases: among the accused could be those who did not participate in the storming of the airport. Relatives of many of the defendants said that they considered the sentences excessively harsh and unfair.

Recall that on October 29, 2023, hundreds of people stormed the Makhachkala airport, trying to find passengers on a transit flight from Tel Aviv. Those gathered were protesting against Israel's actions in Palestine.
