State Duma Deputy Matveyev Blames Migrants for Ruble Fall
Migrants are to blame for the ruble fall. This is the conclusion shared by State Duma Deputy Mikhail Matveyev from the Communist Party.

The politician claims that newcomers are constantly withdrawing large sums of money, thereby stimulating demand for currency.

“Millions of migrants in Russia are withdrawing their earnings from our economy, sending them back to their home countries,” Matveyev explained.

In his speech, the Communist Party representative mentioned Tajikistan, half of whose GDP, according to the deputy, is made up of transfers from Russia, as well as Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Armenia and Kazakhstan.

Mikhail Matveyev is known for his initiatives in the fight against radical Islamism, especially in the context of migration and security. Thus, this year he introduced a bill for consideration that provides for fines of 10-15 thousand rubles for wearing a niqab in public places. In May last year, the deputy proposed a bill allowing migrants with Russian citizenship to be sent to the "special military operation" zone.

In addition, in early January of this year, Matveyev said in an interview with pro-Kremlin blogger Pavel Ivanov that after the end of the war with Ukraine, clashes between Orthodox Christians and Muslims on religious grounds would begin in Russia.

"I think that when the SVO ends and half a million or more of our guys return from the front, then the main clashes will begin between those who by that time will already feel like the masters of our country, and the real masters of the country," the deputy shared his forecast.

In particular, he accused migrants from Muslim countries arriving in the Russian Federation of behaving like "wild savages" and aggressively imposing "their Sharia" on the residents of Russia, while the government "bends under the Islamic factor" by building mosques.

In response to the statements of the Communist Party representative, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said that “convinced Muslims” fought against “fanatics” on the territory of the republic and “finished with them once and for all.” He recalled that Muslims live in a secular state, where they have the opportunity to practice Islam, build mosques and perform namaz. Moreover, the head of the region suggested “throwing out” Matveyev from the State Duma because of his “provocative speech.” As a result, the deputy recorded a video in which he apologized to Kadyrov and Russian Muslims. He clarified that in his statement he meant exclusively terrorists and radicals.
