Furthermore, the "Military" portal, citing data from the NASA FIRMS monitoring service, reported an attack on a military airfield in Taganrog. The system detected a fire at 2:44 AM in the aircraft parking area. The report notes that the airfield is located approximately 40 km from the Ukrainian state border.
"The airbase is actively used by the Russian army. The 325th Aircraft Repair Plant (military unit 23213), which repairs transport aircraft and components for the Il-76, is located on its territory," the publication states.
The portal also reports that a military unit of the 5th Aviation Group is located near the airfield. South of this airfield, according to the publication, is the factory airfield of the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after G. M. Beriev, where A-50U airborne early warning and control aircraft, Il-76 transport aircraft, and Il-38 patrol aircraft are repaired and modernized. The A-50 and A-50U aircraft are also protected by the Russian air defense system.
