Kadyrov Announces Killing of Suspect in Attack on Traffic Police Post in Gudermes

In Chechnya, during intensive raids by security forces—conducted as part of a search for suspects involved in an attack on a traffic police post in Gudermes in October 2025—one individual was killed and another was detained. This was announced by the head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, during a meeting with representatives of the security services. Prior to this, Chechen authorities had not officially commented on reports regarding the attack.

Chechnya’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Aslan Iraskhanov, stated that the detained individual had confessed to organizing an explosion near the Gudermes administration building. The authorities have not disclosed the names of either suspect, nor have they provided evidence of their involvement in the attack.

Kadyrov expressed his gratitude to Zamid Chalayev, commander of the Akhmat Kadyrov Special Purpose Police Regiment under the Chechen Interior Ministry. Chalayev had previously threatened alleged extremists—as well as those who assist them—with retribution "without trial or investigation," and the following day, he issued another stern statement reaffirming his readiness to resort to extreme measures.

"We will shoot anyone who provides support to terrorists. And we have already done so—I’m telling you. And there is no one who can stop us. Translate this however you like, pass it on wherever you want. We will shoot even someone who merely thinks about approaching the Wahhabis," the special regiment commander emphasized.

Reports of an explosion at a traffic police post in Gudermes began circulating in Chechen WhatsApp groups in October 2025. In a video that spread online, an eyewitness—speaking in the Chechen language—recounted that a grenade had detonated near a traffic police post, wounding a police officer with shrapnel. A translation of his remarks was published by the website *Kavkaz.Realii*. Judging by the footage, the explosion took place on Akhmat Kadyrov Avenue, where the district administration, other government institutions, and a gymnasium are located. A traffic police checkpoint was typically situated near the school. In a photograph taken following the alleged attack, the avenue could be seen cordoned off by more than ten police vehicles.

The pro-government Telegram channel "ChP Chechnya" indirectly confirmed the incident, describing it as an "attempt on the life of an officer," and announced a five-million-ruble reward for information leading to the perpetrators. The author of the post was not identified, and informants were promised anonymity. The phone number provided in the announcement was linked to two bank cards registered to a "Zelimkhan S." Other users had saved this same number under the name "Zelimkhan Suleymanov"—the head of the investigative unit at the Gudermes District Department of Internal Affairs, who has served in that division since at least 2021.
