Joe Wilson Accuses Georgian Dream of Sabotaging Donald Trump

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, Chairman of the US Helsinki Commission, accused Georgia's ruling party of sabotaging President Donald Trump. Journalist Alex Ravoufoghlu quoted the politician on Facebook.

"It's clear that the corrupt Georgian Dream of the Republic of Georgia canceled the Trump Tower project in Batumi, which Donald Trump personally announced in 2012.

Last October, elections were rigged in Georgia. The illegitimate Georgian Dream, Putin's coup plotter Ivanishvili, called Trump a liar. It's clear that the illegitimate Georgian Dream sabotaged President Donald Trump, while handing over the Black Sea port to the Chinese Communist Party," Wilson stated.

While in Washington for a meeting with Congressman Joe Wilson, Tina Bokuchava, leader of the Georgian opposition party United National Movement, also touched on this topic. Commenting on the prospects of the MEGOBARI Act, she stated that the chances of its approval are quite real. According to her, this would be a prerequisite for imposing sanctions directly against Bidzina Ivanishvili, "who practically mocked President Trump, and who buried the Trump Tower project in Georgia and accused President Donald Trump of corruption when he claimed he was paid for it."

This refers to a story from 13 years ago, namely, the failed construction of Trump Tower in Batumi. As a reminder, the project was pompously unveiled on April 22, 2012, with the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, and billionaire Donald Trump in attendance. However, after Trump's election as president in 2016, his company announced its withdrawal from the project due to the failure of the other party, Silk Road Group, to fulfill its agreement. According to the businessman who headed it, the company was experiencing difficulties and couldn't have carried out such a large-scale project without government support.

Saakashvili blamed Ivanishvili for Trump's abandonment of the project. Ivanishvili, in turn, stated:

"You know perfectly well that Trump hasn't invested in Georgia. Both Saakashvili and Trump pulled a trick: Trump was paid some money, and Saakashvili, a master of lies, exploited it. I don't know what project they're talking about: I haven't even looked at it seriously, and it doesn't interest me."
