An ex-policeman from Ingushetia had his sentence commuted for beating a pensioner

The Supreme Court of Ingushetia changed the sentence of former police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Amiran Merzhoev for beating a disabled pensioner. Instead of four years of suspended imprisonment, the defendant was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. He has already served this term in a pre-trial detention center and will soon be released.

A criminal case was opened after security forces in Magas detained local resident Timur Derbichev on suspicion of illegal drug possession in January 2022. At the department, Merzhoev approached the detainee and demanded that he kneel down, and after refusing, he beat him. A criminal case was opened against two police officers.

In addition, Merzhoev and a colleague extorted a bribe of 400 thousand rubles from a pensioner in order not to draw up a report on the discovery of drugs. The victim, who has a second group disability, received bruises, a head injury and rib fractures as a result of the beatings.
