The ECHR awarded compensation to a resident of Ingushetia for torture and threats by the police
The European Court of Human Rights decided to pay compensation in the amount of 16,000 euros to Ingushetia resident Leila Chemurziyeva, who was subjected to torture and threats by law enforcement officers.
 
In 2015, Chemurziyeva was accused of using violence against government officials, aiding and abetting the members of the IMF and illegal possession of weapons, the Memorial Human Rights Center reported. Then she was accused of having connections with the leader of the "militants" of the Sunzhensky district, Beslan Makhaura, and the leader of the "Nazranov" group, Ilyas Vedzyzhev. After the detention, the woman appealed to the court with a complaint of torture, stating that the security forces strangled her, twisted her wounded arm, pressed the wounds until they bled, and threatened her with rape and murder.
 
In 2016, Chemurziyeva was sentenced to 6.5 years. After she was released in 2022, she was arrested by the Central Bureau of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to them, an improvised explosive device was found in her house. However, the relatives are sure that prohibited items were thrown to her. After the search, 100,000 rubles and gold jewelry were lost in her house. Chemurzieva was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, she was released in September 2024.
