The European Court of Human Rights ordered the Russian authorities to pay compensation to the injured Georgian citizens

The European Court of Human Rights ordered Russia to pay more than 129 million euros in compensation to Georgian citizens for violations of their rights during the 2008 war. Thus, compensation of 3.2 million euros is provided for the killing of at least 50 civilians (there were 116 applications), 2.7 million euros for 116 civilian victims of arbitrary detention and inhuman treatment, 640,000 euros - 16 Georgian prisoners of war tortured.
115 million euros were awarded due to the administrative practice of preventing the return of Georgian citizens to their homes in the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which affected at least 23,000 people. Another 8.2 million were awarded to victims of the lack of adequate investigation by the Russian side of civilian deaths during the hostilities.
