The European Court of Human Rights ordered the payment of compensation to the participants of the Natalia Estemirov memorial campaign in Moscow.

The European Court awarded compensation for moral and material damage ranging from 1,000 to 3,900 euros to 59 Russians detained for participating in various actions and rallies. One of the applicants is a member of the Council of the CSDH «Memorial» Alexander Cherkasov, who was detained on July 15, 2019 in memory of Natalia Estemirov.
The ECtHR acknowledged violations by the Russian authorities. These include disproportionate interference with the right to freedom of assembly, unlawful detentions, lack of prosecution in the administrative process and the unfairness of the process.
On 15 July 2009, human rights activist Natalia Estemirov was kidnapped near her home in Grozny. Her body was found on the same day in Ingushetia, near the village of Gazi-Yurt. Natasha was shot in the chest and in the head.
Customers and executors have not yet been found. The sister of the murdered Svetlana Estemirov filed a complaint with the ECHR against Russia in 2011. At the end of August 2021, the European Court of Human Rights issued a verdict regarding the lack of proper investigation.
