During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered the Russian authorities to pay one thousand euros each to Zelimkhan Dudayev, Said Asadullaev and Umar Baysiev. Natives of Chechnya were subjected to inhumane treatment during their transfer to places of detention.
The ECHR resolution stated that the victims did not have access to amenities during transportation, the compartments in the cars were overcrowded, and there was not enough fresh air. The court awarded each one a thousand euros as compensation.
Also the basis for complaints was the lack of effective legal remedies in Russian legislation for prisoners subjected to such treatment.
Let us recall that in June 2022, the Russian authorities refused to implement the decisions of the ECHR. In September of the same year, Russia ceased to be a party to the European Convention on Human Rights.
