Today, Azerbaijan celebrates the 34th anniversary of its restoration of state independence. On August 30, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic adopted the Declaration on the Restoration of Independence, and on October 18 of the same year, the Constitutional Act enshrining this status was adopted.

The European Court of Human Rights issued a decision on the complaint of the co-chairman of the Memorial Human Rights Center Oleg Orlov. It concerned the detention during a picket in support of the Chechen human rights activist Oyub Titiev. The amount of compensation according to the court decision was 4,000 euros.
In July 2018, Oleg Orlov and Svetlana Gannushkina were detained in the center of Moscow for “violating the procedure for holding meetings.” They went to Manezhnaya Square with posters “Freedom for Oyub Titiev!” At the same time, a trial began in Grozny of a human rights activist who was detained for allegedly possessing marijuana. In reality, drugs were planted on Titiev in order to arrest him for political reasons, reports the Memorial Human Rights Center.
“The political trial of our comrade Oyub Titiev, which began in Chechnya, is, from our point of view, a very important event for Russian society and the international community. The accusation against Titiev is entirely falsified; he is a political prisoner. Society must react to this. Therefore, we considered it an urgent need to hold an action in order to convey important information to the citizens of our country, to guests who came to Moscow, to the media,” Oleg Orlov said in court.
In February, Oleg Orlov was recognized as a foreign agent. On February 27, the Golovinsky Court of Moscow sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison under the article on “repeated discrediting” of the army. The human rights activist was tried for an anti-war article in which he called the Putin regime fascist.
