European Court of Human Rights to Consider Georgia’s Next Complaint against Russia

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has accepted the claim of «Georgia against Russia». In it, the complainant requested clarification of the deaths of three Georgian citizens whose murderers were allegedly being sheltered in Russia. We are talking about the deaths of David Basharuli, Archil Tatunashvili and Giga Otkhozoria. Tbilisi believes that Moscow is harboring the security forces responsible for their deaths.

According to the complainant, the Russian Federation has violated several provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, including the right to life, the prohibition of torture, the right to liberty and security of person, etc.

Earlier, the ECHR satisfied Georgia’s claims against the Russian Federation regarding human rights violations in self-proclaimed Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The European Court also ordered Moscow to pay compensation to Georgians who had been illegally deported from the Russian Federation.
