Former Georgian Interior Ministry official Lasha Shergelashvili, who served as the head of the Armaments Department of the Special Operations Directorate, said on Formula TV that a banned substance was used to suppress a protest outside the Central Election Commission in 2020. When asked if he had any suspicions, he replied that he "knew for sure that it was used" as he was there at the time.
Members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution with the possibility of granting Armenia candidate status for accession to the European Union. “If Armenia is interested in obtaining candidate status and continues on the path of stable reforms, strengthening its democracy, then this could become the basis for a transformation phase in EU-Armenia relations,” the draft document says.
In addition, the European Parliament called for closer economic and trade cooperation between the EU countries and Yerevan and support for the Armenian armed forces. “If someone threatens the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia, sanctions must be applied against these individuals and structures,” the document says.
At the same time, the European legislature noted that the current influence of the Russian Federation on the Armenian economy remains high, and called on the latter to be vigilant regarding possible circumvention of sanctions.
Let us remind you that recently Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that his country could apply to join the EU no later than the fall. He also threatened to leave the pro-Russian military-political bloc CSTO.
