European Parliament Criticizes Ruling Party of Georgia

The attempt of the Georgian government to adopt an analogue of the Russian law on «foreign agents» was not successful. This was opposed at the mass rallies by the people of the country. This position was expressed at the hearings of the European Parliament.
According to them, the ruling party «Georgian Dream» tried to adopt a repressive law under Russian influence, which aims to discredit civil society and suppress the opposition. However, popular protests prevented this - the bill was withdrawn.

The European Parliament also discussed political prisoners. The discussion was attended by family members of the former President of Georgia - mother Ghiuli Alasania and son Eduard Saakashvili. According to the latter, the leaders of many countries, EU MPs, human rights activists call for the release of Mikhail Saakashvili.
We have seen many resolutions. This is extremely important because there is a growing international consensus on my father’s life. The solution proposed by us, which is to send him for treatment abroad, is an unambiguous solution, the chances of that actually happening increase even more», - said the son of the Georgian ex-president.
