The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has published a report alleging that Georgian authorities used chemical weapons during the suppression of pro-European protests in Tbilisi in 2024. The chemical weapon in question is bromobenzyl cyanide, a chemical warfare agent dating back to World War I, also known as "kamit."
Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, ranked third in the Russian city quality of life ranking compiled by the Financial University under the Government. Moscow and Sevastopol ranked first.
Among other cities in the North Caucasus Federal District, Vladikavkaz ranked 6th, Makhachkala 12th, and Stavropol 36th. Although the North Caucasus republics have traditionally ranked low in material well-being rankings, the latest data on quality of life in cities indicates positive changes. In particular, Vladikavkaz and Grozny have shown improvements in their indicators and rankings.
To determine the leaders, residents' opinions and statistical data on key aspects of city life were taken into account: housing affordability, quality of healthcare and education, cultural level, environmental conditions, safety, government performance, and conditions for entrepreneurship.
