Georgian opposition promises to release Saakashvili if it wins the elections
The Georgian opposition party United National Movement has promised to release former President Mikheil Saakashvili from prison if he wins the parliamentary elections on October 26. This was stated by the party leader Tina Bokuchava.

She also shared plans to resume negotiations on joining the EU after the change of government.

"We will bring European pensions, European wages, healthcare, education and a European passport," Bokuchava assured.

Recall that Mikheil Saakashvili returned to Georgia from Ukraine on September 29, 2021 and was detained. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison, and the court is considering three more cases against him. Since May 2022, the ex-president has been serving his term in the Vivamed clinic instead of prison.

According to a September poll by Edison Research commissioned by the opposition TV channel Formula, the opposition union Unity (National Movement, Strategy Agmashenebeli, European Georgia) is gaining 20%, behind the ruling Georgian Dream, for which a third of voters are ready to vote. But in total, the votes for the opposition exceed 60%.
