Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
27 EU member states have decided to enlarge Europe. One of the potential candidates is Georgia, which received a European perspective, which was for it a historic achievement. This was stated by EU Ambassador to Tbilisi Pavel Gerchinsky at the event dedicated to the European Days in the capital of Georgia. «I believe that our European friends and European states will make the only correct political decision this year and grant Georgia and the Georgian people the status of candidate for EU membership», - said Gerczynski.
In turn, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili said that Georgians have always considered themselves part of Europe. They share common values based on identical Christian motives.
Recall that Tbilisi applied for EU membership on March 3, 2022 - simultaneously with Moldova and soon after Ukraine. Later, Ukraine and Moldova were granted candidate status, and Georgia was asked to implement 12 recommendations for further European integration.
