Ilham Aliyev accused France and the West of supporting the occupation of Azerbaijani lands

France and similar Western countries tried to perpetuate the seizure of Azerbaijani lands. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a meeting with residents of Karabakh's Jabrayil.

"Armenia violated all norms and principles of international law, seized about 20% of Karabakh, carried out a policy of ethnic cleansing, destroyed our cities and villages. Has any official representative of any Western state ever criticized them? No," Aliyev said.

According to him, Western countries even ignored the UN Security Council resolutions on the occupation of Karabakh by Armenia. The Minsk Group (which also included Russia) was engaged in justifying, to a certain extent, Armenian policy and inciting Azerbaijan to a humiliating peace.

In addition, Ilham Aliyev spoke about the double standards of American sanctions: “America imposed sanctions against our country in 1992, when Azerbaijani lands were under occupation. However, in 2001, the sanctions were suspended. Why? Because the Americans began to occupy Afghanistan, and they needed Azerbaijan. That is, when you need us, you suspend the sanctions, and when you don’t, you restore them.” Earlier, Aliyev said that the text of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia had been agreed upon by 80%. He also emphasized that in order to sign the document, it was important to amend the Constitution of Armenia in order to put an end to territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
