Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze posed for a photo with several politicians, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a forum in Turkmenistan dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust. The Georgian opposition interpreted the presence of representatives of the ruling Georgian Dream party at the event alongside Putin as a decision to reconsider the country's foreign policy.
On the 17th day of the hunger strike, the health condition of one of the leaders of the opposition Azerbaijani movements of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NSDS) and the Musavat party, Tofig Yagublu, significantly deteriorated. In the pre-trial detention center, his pains in his internal organs intensified, his vision became worse and he could not move. His family requires transfer to a private clinic.
According to lawyer Agil Laij, Yagublu lost almost 11 kilograms of weight in 17 days of hunger strike. Because of his weakness, he has become less able to speak, and his blood pressure drops. The daughter of the politician Nyyar Khaza believes that failure to provide medical care is a death sentence, and she needed to transfer her father to a private clinic.
In March, a court in Baku sentenced Tofyg Yagubla to nine years in prison. He pointed to the lack of evidence and falsification of the criminal case.
Yagublu is known for criticizing the authorities of Azerbaijan. At the end of 2023, he was arrested on charges of fraud and forgery of documents. Before that, the politician was repeatedly subjected to criminal and administrative prosecution. International organizations recognized him as a prisoner of conscience.
