Crimean Tatar taken from prison to hospital due to fainting spells and heart problems

59-year-old Ruslan Mesutov, sentenced to 18 years, was transferred from IK-1 in Yakutsk to the hospital. According to his relatives, after the transfer, the man was kept in solitary confinement almost continuously.

Prison employees took away the political prisoner's medications, personal belongings, including glasses and the Koran. They promised him that "he would be in solitary confinement for a long time and that he had no right to use the store or visits." Mesutov had previously been diagnosed with hepatitis C, and his back pain had worsened. He was hospitalized only due to heart problems and frequent fainting spells.

The prison administration considers the Crimean Tatar a "malicious violator." They promised him that by the end of April, all of his violations would be completed and the materials would be sent to the court to transfer him back to prison. He also asked his relatives not to visit him, as "they could put me in solitary confinement at any moment." In 2021, Mesutov was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his involvement in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It is banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as terrorist. Before his arrest, he developed a religious community in Alushta and organized Muslim holidays.
