Lawyer beaten in Chechnya asked to investigate incident in another region

Lawyer Alexander Nemov sent a petition to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation to change the territorial jurisdiction in the criminal case initiated in connection with the attack on him and journalist Elena Milashina in Chechnya.

Alexander Nemov noted that the investigation is not involved in identifying the persons involved in the crime. Finding out their identities was unsuccessful, and almost six months later, none of the attackers is known. In addition, the lawyer was threatened with death if he returned to Chechnya.

Carrying out investigative actions in the region where he was attacked creates threats both for him and for the participants in the criminal case.
The investigator will not be able to ensure the safety of the victims, Nemov suggested. He expressed hope that the criminal case would be taken away from the investigators of the ICR department for Chechnya and transferred to another region.

Let us remind you that on July 4, about 10-15 masked men attacked journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov on the way from the airport to Grozny. They were going to the announcement of the verdict in the case of Zarema Musaeva. Both victims suffered serious injuries.
