Crimean Tatar political prisoner Remzy Bekirov is forced to starve due to a ban on food storage
The administration of IK-33 in Khakassia prohibits the Crimean Tatar and other Muslim prisoners from keeping food in the cell. He fasts during Ramadan and, according to the canons of Islam, he must have breakfast before sunrise and dinner after sunset. According to the convict's wife and lawyer, due to his special meal time, he cannot have breakfast with everyone, and IK-33 guards do not give him food bought in the prison store and forbid him to keep it in his cell.

Earlier, the court in Crimea rejected Remza Bekirov's claim against the colony administration for the fact that he was placed in a detention center for five days as a punishment for performing the morning prayer. According to Bekirov, the colony employee made a report on him, as the Muslim allegedly violated the daily routine of the correctional institution. He was obliged to watch TV instead of praying, namely the "MUZ-TV" channel, the colony employee told the court. Bekirov said that he exercised his right to freedom of religion, enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

In March 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Remzy Bekirov to 19 years in prison. He was found guilty of participating in the Hiz but Tahrir Islamic party, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation.
