Crimean Tatar political prisoner reported deteriorating health and refusal to eat

Crimean Tatar Vladlen Abdulkadyrov, sentenced to 12 years, complained of deteriorating health in prison No. 2 in Yelets, Lipetsk region. During the meeting, he told his wife that while still in the pre-trial detention center, he began to have back pain, which intensified after the detention.

The Crimean Tatar is kept in a small cell for four people. From time to time he is forced to refuse food because he does not eat food prohibited by his religion.

In May 2022, Abdulkadyrov and four other Crimean Tatars - Tofik Abdulgaziev, Izzet Abdullaev, Medzhit Abdurakhmanov and Bilyal Adilov - were found guilty under articles of participation in the activities of a terrorist organization and preparation for a violent change of power. Under these articles, Crimean Tatars are being tried in Crimea for membership in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation, but legally operating in Ukraine, Europe and the world.
