Crimean Tatar prisoners banned from visiting relatives

The wives of convicted Crimean Tatars Nariman Dzhelal, Asan and Aziz Akhtemovs were no longer allowed to visit them in the pre-trial detention center. Leviza Dzhelalova, Repika and Adile Akhtemova represent the interests of the spouses in court as public defenders along with lawyers. This is reported by "Echo of the Caucasus".

The Third Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction of the city of Sochi upheld the sentence of the Crimean Tatars and toughened the conditions of their detention. Now they will have to spend the first three years of their term in prison. They have already served two years in a pre-trial detention center, they have a year left in prison.

Nariman Dzhelal is the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, which is banned on the territory of the Russian Federation as an “extremist organization”. Aziz and Asan Akhtemov are Crimean Tatar activists. They were detained on September 3 and 4, 2021 on suspicion of blowing up a gas pipeline in the village of Perevalnoye on the order of Ukrainian intelligence. They were sentenced respectively to 17, 15 and 13 years in prison. They did not admit their guilt.
