During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Crimean Tatar lawyer was fined for a post about the rules for granting a deferment from conscription
In Simferopol, security forces detained and later released lawyer Emil Kurbedinov. He was issued a report under the article on abuse of freedom of mass information (Part 9 of Article 13.15 of the Administrative Code). The reason for the detention and fine was Kurbedinov’s post on the rules for granting a deferment from conscription.
Emil Kurbedinov defends Crimean Tatars, political prisoners and those accused of extremism and terrorism. In 2017, the lawyer was arrested for 10 days for a post on Facebook. Then he was accused of publicly displaying paraphernalia of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which is recognized as extremist in Russia.
