Crimean Tatar lawyer fined for post about calling students to military registration and enlistment offices

The magistrate's court in Simferopol fined lawyer Emil Kurbedinov 30 thousand rubles because of a post about mobilization. He is known for defending Crimean Tatar activists and political prisoners in courts.

Kurbedinov was found guilty under the article on abuse of freedom of speech (Part 9 of Article 13.15 of the Administrative Code). The court considered the publication in the telegram channel of the KEMsk volost lawyer about the illegal summoning of students with a deferment from conscription to the military registration and enlistment office to be dangerous “fake news”.

“For three months, while the case was being considered, the defense presented a huge amount of evidence, which spoke of violations by military registration and enlistment offices throughout Russia, although I did not have to prove my innocence. This had to be proven by the employees of the Center for Special Investigations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They said: “We have drawn up a protocol on the offense, and let the court look for evidence, investigate, establish the circumstances.” I can guess why I was found guilty. This is ongoing pressure on lawyers in Crimea,” said Emil Kurbedinov.

In mid-February, Emil Kurbedinov was detained and taken to the Central Execution Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs because of a post in a cart. He wrote that students who have a deferment from conscription are sent summonses to the military registration and enlistment office for a commission. And then there are cases when the guys don’t even have time to get a diploma - they are drafted into the army.
