Previously, Timur Yalkabov was repeatedly placed in the SHIZO of the Ulyanovsk prison. In three months, he lost 28 kg. In addition, his head was forcibly shaved. After that, the prison staff tried to force the believer to wash his head in cold water.

In 2022, Yalkabov was sentenced to 17 years in prison. He was accused of participating in the Hizb ut-Tahrir Islamic party, banned in the Russian Federation. According to the case file, the suspect had no weapons, did not plan to commit terrorist acts, and did not call others to them.
