Today, Azerbaijan celebrates the 34th anniversary of its restoration of state independence. On August 30, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic adopted the Declaration on the Restoration of Independence, and on October 18 of the same year, the Constitutional Act enshrining this status was adopted.

Crimean Tatar Eskender Abdulganiev, after being transferred from a Vladimir prison to colony No. 41 in the Kemerovo region, was immediately placed in a punishment cell. The reasons for tightening the conditions of detention were not announced to him. With short breaks, he has been in the punishment cell for five months.
In addition, Abdulganiev was declared a “malicious violator, prone to constant violations,” put on a professional watch list and transferred to strict conditions of detention (SUS). There is no ventilation in the cell; in hot weather the room is very hot and stuffy. Drinking water can only be obtained from the tap, but it is rusty. “I pointed out the presence of only such water to the prosecutor, who came on the complaint of my representative. He then explained that this water had previously been sent for analysis and it complied with sanitary standards,” the Crimean Tatar shared.
While in the punishment cell, prisoners cannot see their relatives, receive parcels, or see a doctor. The maximum placement time is 15 days, but many convicts remain there for months.
In November 2020, Eskender Abdulganiev was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was found guilty of the activities of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in Russia. In many countries of the world it operates without restrictions.
