A Crimean Tatar political prisoner was transported to a prison in the Lipetsk region

Crimean Tatar activist Ali (Oleg) Fedorov, sentenced to 13 years in prison, was transported to prison in Yelets, Lipetsk region. This was reported by the project “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial".

In July 2022, Fedorov was found guilty of membership in the Islamic political party Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation but legal in Europe. In court, he mentioned the Lebanese organization Hezbollah and the Afghan Taliban, which are included in the list of terrorist organizations in Russia, despite the fact that their representatives come to Russia on high-level visits.

According to investigators, Fedorov met with like-minded people at meetings in mosques and other places where extremist literature, politics and the building of the caliphate were discussed. Lawyer Lilya Gemedzhi spoke out that talking about current, general topics is not a crime.
