Crimean Tatar political prisoner-journalist denied transfer to a colony closer to home

Crimean Tatar Seyran Saliyev, who was sentenced to 15 years and is being held in a penal colony in the Tula region, was denied transfer to a correctional facility closer to his family's place of residence. This was reported by his wife, who visited her husband after two and a half days of travel.

In addition, even being in isolation, Saliev is under pressure. In particular, people came to the political prisoner, introducing themselves as policemen, and asked questions about his attitude to the political party Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation, for ties with which he was convicted.

Seyran Saliev is a philologist of Turkish and Crimean Tatar languages. Prior to his arrest, he worked as a tour guide and journalist for Crimean Solidarity. In 2020, he was sentenced to 15 years on charges of involvement in the activities of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It was recognized in the Russian Federation as a terrorist organization, while in Ukraine and Europe the organization operates absolutely legally.

Recall that back in 2019, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it called on Russia to release all Ukrainian political prisoners, including Crimean Tatars.
