International professors call on Azerbaijani authorities to release economist
159 professors and teachers from 28 countries called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release economist and activist Gubad Ibadoglu, who has been under house arrest since 2023.

The letter, sent during the COP29 international climate conference in Baku, mentions the critical health condition of the political prisoner and his contribution to the fight against corruption. The signatories expressed concern about Ibadoglu's deteriorating health: he has diabetes and serious heart and kidney problems.

Earlier, 240 international organizations, scientists and human rights activists, as well as politicians from the United States and Europe, asked for Gubad Ibadoglu's release. On April 22, he was released from the pre-trial detention center, where he had been held since July 23, 2023. By a court decision, the preventive measure was replaced by house arrest.

Gubad Ibadoglu was arrested on charges of selling counterfeit money and distributing extremist materials. The accused rejects the investigation's arguments.
