The Danish Foreign Ministry explained Georgia's absence from the meeting of EU ministers with representatives of candidate countries

The Danish Foreign Ministry explained the reasons for the absence of the Georgian delegation from the meeting of EU ministers and representatives of candidate countries, which took place on September 1-2 in Copenhagen.

As noted by the diplomatic department, the invitation would have been meaningless, since on November 28, 2024, the Georgian government announced the suspension of the European integration process until 2028. In this regard, Denmark, which currently holds the EU presidency, considered it inappropriate for the country to participate in such meetings.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry recalled that the negotiation process was actually frozen after the June 2024 EU leaders' summit. The reason was the actions of the Georgian authorities, which, according to the Danish side, led to serious deviations from democratic principles.
