The Muftiate of Georgia demanded an investigation into the protest against Muslim Friday prayers

The Friday prayer of Muslims in the village of Adigeni in Georgia was disrupted due to a protest organized by local residents against its holding. The Georgian Muslim Union condemned the persecution of people on ethnic and religious grounds and demanded an investigation into the incident.

Dozens of security forces were deployed in Adigeni after a crowd blocked the road leading to a house where prayers were being held. There is no mosque in the village; on Fridays, Muslims gather in the house of a local resident.

Protesters threatened prayer participants with physical harm. The mayor of Adigeni, Gotse Kimadze, had to calm the crowd. He promised that the municipality would buy the house where prayers are held and socially vulnerable people would be settled there.
