Chechnya's leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, reacted strongly to criticism from State Duma deputy General Vladimir Shamanov of the initiative to rename the villages of Naurskaya and Shelkovskaya (now Nevre and Terek). The Council of Ulema of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation (SAM) has approved the use of botulinum toxin (better known as Botox) for cosmetic purposes for Muslims. This was reported by the press service of the organization.
According to the SAM statement, the use of Botox is permissible in the presence of medical indications, such as pronounced expression wrinkles, facial asymmetry or the risk of scarring, and only on the recommendation of a cosmetologist. It is important that the drug does not contain components prohibited by Islam, which, in particular, include albumin of human origin.
The procedure must be carried out exclusively in medical institutions that have the appropriate license. The SAM emphasized that this decision may be revised in the future if new scientific data appears on the effects of Botox on the body.
Ildar Alyautdinov, deputy chairman of the Ulema Council and Mufti of Moscow, noted that when making the decision, the DUM was guided by the principles of Islamic law, which prohibit harm to health.
