Nikita Zhuravel will remain in custody until April 20, 2024

The Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny extended for six months – until April 20, 2024 – the term of Nikita Zhuravel’s detention in a pre-trial detention center. A 19-year-old student from Volgograd partially admitted his guilt and apologized to the Islamic society for burning the Koran.

“First of all, I would like to apologize to all Muslims present in this room and the entire Muslim community of the world for my action. It is terrible, and I committed it primarily out of ignorance of the full importance of this Book for Muslims. I am very ashamed of my action,” said Nikita Zhuravel.

Earlier, a video was published on the Internet in which the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, speaks with Nikita. The convict apologizes and says that he allegedly wants to convert to Islam, but Kadyrov does not believe him.

In August, the young man said that he was beaten by Ramzan Kadyrov’s son Adam in a pre-trial detention center. Video evidence was later published, but the police refused to open a criminal case for attacking the arrested person.
