Nikita Zhuravel was asked to serve three and a half years in prison

The prosecutor demanded a sentence of 6 years and 11 months for student Nikita Zhuravel, accused of insulting the feelings of believers. He is accused of burning the Koran.

Earlier in court, Zhuravel admitted that he burned the Koran not because of certain beliefs, but for the promise of a monetary reward.

“I did this in order to obtain material resources. I sent the filmed video to a user of the Telegram messenger with the nickname “//”. After burning, I wrapped the remains of the Koran in a T-shirt and later threw it into a trash can on the territory of the university where I studied in Volgograd,” said Zhuravel.

The accused also said that burning the Koran was the third task from the same Telegram user. Previously, he wrote on a wall in Volgograd: “Be careful, today there is a killer in the city,” and also posted leaflets with information about the rules of conduct during evacuation. At the same time, Zhuravel did not receive payment for completing the tasks.

Let us recall that at the end of September 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov published a video in which his 16-year-old son beats student Zhuravel in a pre-trial detention center in Grozny. After this, Adam Kadyrov was awarded many state and republican awards and titles.

In May 2023, a student from Volgograd, Nikita Zhuravel, burned the Koran near the cathedral mosque. In Grozny he is being tried for publicly insulting the feelings of believers and hooliganism. He admitted his guilt and apologized.
