With the parliamentary elections in Armenia scheduled for June 7 approaching, opposition forces are deciding whether to participate. Two parties – Strong Armenia and Wings of Unity – have officially submitted their applications to the Central Election Commission.
According to the Chechen opposition movement NIYSO, a new wave of mass detentions and raids is underway in the republic. Reports of this are coming in from various districts of Chechnya.
NIYSO claims that relatives of those detained are facing threats. The movement points to a WhatsApp message from Rustam Aguyev, head of the Kurchaloy District Department of Internal Affairs, as indirect confirmation of this information. It states: "Let no one write to me asking for anyone's release until I complete my task... The rest are off. No offense."
NIYSO representatives also report the abduction of three residents of the village of Nizhniy Noyber, which, according to them, occurred several days ago. Those detained are identified as 23-year-old Makhdi Khasanov, his wife, and his brother, Musa Khasanov.
NIYSO is known for its publications on human rights violations in the region, which local authorities do not comment on. Last fall, the region's Supreme Court declared the movement an "extremist organization."
