Date of presidential elections in Abkhazia announced
Early presidential elections in Abkhazia will be held on February 15, 2025. The corresponding decision was made by the parliament of the self-proclaimed republic.

On November 19, the parliament of Abkhazia accepted the resignation of then-president Aslan Bzhania. After that, he announced that he would run for office again.

The decision to change the leadership was made as a result of mass protests against the ratification of the agreement on investments from the Russian Federation. The day before, representatives of the opposition appealed to the speaker of the parliament with a call to bring up the issue of the investment agreement at the next meeting and reject it. Many residents fear that the arrival of Russian business in the unrecognized republic will leave them without work.

Recall that the resignation of President Bzhania was one of the demands of the protesting opposition and its supporters.
