Chechnya's ombudsman demanded punishment for Amursk officials who detained a 16-year-old girl because of her hijab
The father of a 16-year-old girl born in Chechnya addressed the human rights commissioner in the republic, Mansur Soltaev, with his condolences. According to the man, the girl was detained by the juvenile department when she received her passport because she was wearing a hijab. Law enforcement officials explained that such a form of clothing represents a "danger to society."

"The detention of a minor on such an absurd proposition is a gross violation of her constitutional rights, which guarantee freedom of religion and the right to self-expression," Mansur Soltaev said.

According to him, after the girl's release, appeals will be sent to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, as well as to the federal and regional human rights commissioner. The issue was taken under personal control by State Duma deputies from Chechnya, Adam Delimkhanov and Shamsail Saraliev.

In 2024, a wide resonance was caused by the decision of the authorities of the Vladimir region to ban the wearing of religious clothing in schools. The Coordination Center of the Muslims of the North Caucasus (KCMSK) criticized this ban.
