A political prisoner with cancer who called for not sending Chechens to war with Ukraine was hospitalized

Zakhar Zaripov with stage four cancer was hospitalized from a pretrial detention center in Khabarovsk Krai. He was placed in the "Regional Clinical Oncology Center." The man was not provided with treatment in the pretrial detention center.

In April, mathematics teacher Zakhar Zaripov was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of incitement to terrorism. In fact, he addressed the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov on a social network with an appeal not to send his fellow countrymen to fight in Ukraine. In addition to this, he recalled how Chechnya tried to achieve its independence.

A linguistic examination found in the publication signs of "incitement to an armed seizure of power with the aim of violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation." The human rights project "Support for political prisoners. Memorial" recognized Zaripov as a political prisoner.

"We believe that the man's actions do not constitute a crime, and the case against him was fabricated for political reasons as a tool to intimidate critics of the Russian authorities. The text for which a criminal case was opened against him does not pose a public danger," the human rights activists noted.
