A preliminary hearing was held at the Baku Court of Appeal on the complaint of activist Jafar Mirzoev, who was arrested after being expelled from Germany.
On January 16, Baku Court for Serious Crimes sentenced Mirzoev to 6 years' imprisonment, finding him guilty of drug trafficking. He denied guilt and claimed the drugs were planted on him.
Jafar Mirzoev is one of four activists arrested after being deported from Germany in late 2021 - early 2022. on similar drug charges. Human rights activists declared all political prisoners. The real reason for these arrests was the participation of political emigrants in protests in Europe demanding the release of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
