Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who arrived in Yekaterinburg to participate in the Innoprom-2026 international industrial exhibition, met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. During the talks, the two sides exchanged emphatically positive statements about the prospects for bilateral relations, despite the sharp deterioration that accompanied the parliamentary elections in Armenia.
A major modernization of Grozny Airport is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. By then, authorities intend to commission a new runway and open a new terminal complex.
According to the Chechen capital's mayor's office, one of the key stages of the project is the construction of a new 3,200-meter runway. Its commissioning is scheduled for this year. Meanwhile, construction of the new terminal complex, designed to handle approximately 1.2 million passengers annually, continues.
The project's completion date has been adjusted again. This is the third change to the new terminal's construction schedule. Chechen authorities initially promised to open it in December 2025. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new terminal at Grozny-Severny International Airport took place on July 12, 2022, with the participation of Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the republic. The airport itself was renamed in honor of the late head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov, on August 23, 2021, to coincide with his 70th birthday.
In the summer of 2024, and then in early 2025, the Chechen Ministry of Transport announced that due to additional work on the new runway, as well as a project cost increase to 17.5 billion rubles, completion of construction was being pushed back to the end of 2026.
Now, apparently, the Grozny mayor's office is overseeing construction, having announced a new completion date, although the city administration has not directly announced the new delay. The mayor's office's statement stated that "all stages of the work are being completed on time and to the highest quality standards, with no deviations from the approved schedule. Completion of all airport construction work is scheduled for the end of 2027."
The architectural concept of the new terminal is a crescent-shaped design, reflecting the symbolism of the coat of arms of the Chechen Republic. In addition, a 52-meter-tall air traffic control tower, equipped with modern equipment and providing a complete view of the airfield, has already been commissioned.
In May 2025, the Russian Minister of Transport announced that a federal project, "Development of the Airfield Support Network," had been developed as part of the national project "Efficient Transport System." By 2030, it is planned to modernize the infrastructure of at least 75 airports across the country. An additional 250 billion rubles have been allocated for these purposes.
The federal project "Development of the Airfield Support Network" in the North Caucasus Federal District includes infrastructure modernization at airports not only in Grozny, but also in Mineralnye Vody, Makhachkala, Stavropol, and Nalchik. The total funding will amount to 35.7 billion rubles.
As of July 2026, Grozny Airport serves approximately a dozen scheduled destinations. Domestic flights to Moscow (Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Domodedovo), St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Surgut, and Sochi are available. The international route network includes flights to Istanbul and Antalya (Turkey), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Dubai (UAE). During the Hajj period, charter flights to Jeddah and Medina in Saudi Arabia are also offered.
