A Crimean Tatar political prisoner who suffered four strokes in a pre-trial detention center was transferred to Russia

Azamat Eyupov, sentenced to 17 years in prison, was transported from Crimea to the prison in the city of Verkhneuralsk, Chelyabinsk region. Last year, a Crimean Tatar suffered four ischemic strokes in a pre-trial detention center; his leg does not function, but he was never sent to the hospital.

In July 2022, Eyupov was sentenced to 17 years on charges of preparing to seize power and organizing the activities of a terrorist organization, which was based on the testimony of anonymous witnesses. These articles incriminate many Crimean Tatars for meetings within the framework of participation in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation. In total, the Memorial Human Rights Center recognized as political prisoners 289 persons involved in cases of involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir.
