Seriously ill native of Chechnya detained in Austria at request of Russia
Dzhabrail Mursikhanov, a native of Chechnya suffering from a severe form of blood cancer, has been detained in Austria. This happened at the request of the Russian authorities through Interpol, the human rights association "Vaifond" reported.

"Extradition to Russia would be tantamount to a death sentence, since Russian prisons do not have the proper conditions for the treatment of such diseases. According to international standards, the extradition of a person with a serious illness who does not receive proper medical care violates his right to life and humane treatment. We call on the Austrian authorities to refrain from extraditing him, taking into account the humanitarian grounds and the health condition of Dzhabrail Mursikhanov," the association said in its statement.

Dzhabrail Mursikhanov is reported to have arrived in Austria from Turkey. Representatives of the local Chechen diaspora are looking for a lawyer for him.
