After the shelling of Russian peacekeepers, the Azerbaijani authorities promised to “punish” the perpetrators

Azerbaijan admitted guilt in the death of five Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh on September 20. President Ilham Aliyev, in a telephone conversation with Putin, expressed “deep condolences” and promised to punish those responsible based on the results of the investigation.

Among those killed as a result of shelling by the Azerbaijani side is the deputy commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, Ivan Kovgan. Along with him, another deputy of the peacekeeping contingent, Tagir-Murod Karaev, and three other servicemen died.

Let us recall that during the previous war in Karabakh in 2020, Azerbaijan shot down a Russian military helicopter over the territory of Armenia. There were no consequences; the Kremlin chose not to notice the incident.
