Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
Human rights activist from Chechnya fears for the lives of his relatives
According to the Team Against Torture, its employee Magomed Alamov cannot leave Chechnya because he fears for the lives of his relatives who will remain in the republic. Earlier, a human rights organization reported that the lawyer was being threatened by relatives of Marina Yandieva, who fled Ingushetia from domestic violence. Alamov gave her a lift during her escape. He was given a week for the girl to return home.
The “Team Against Torture” sent appeals to law enforcement agencies with a request to check the arguments about possible death threats and criminal prosecution against Magomed Alamov and his relatives.
